Gov. Okpebholo has right to support any APC aspirant – Edo State Govt

Edo State Government has dismissed insinuations that Governor Monday Okpebholo imposed candidates during the recently concluded APC National Assembly primaries.

Speaking at the bi-monthly media briefing, Commissioner for Information and Strategy, Kassim Afegbua, said the Governor, like every party member, reserves the constitutional right to support candidates of his choice during political contests. He defended Governor Okpebholo against criticisms surrounding the just concluded APC National Assembly primaries, saying he has the constitutional right to also support any aspirant of his choice during party primaries.

The Commissioner who highlighted the achievements and ongoing activities of the state government said the administration of Governor Okpebholo is making steady progress in delivering on its Project SHINE agenda aimed at developing the state and improving the welfare of citizens.

The bi-monthly briefing with journalists by the Edo State Ministry of Information and Strategy is to give updates on the policies, programmes and achievements of the present administration under the Project SHINE agenda.

The commissioner of the ministry, Kassim Afegbua said the government remains committed to infrastructural development, improved security and better welfare for residents across the state.

On transportation, Afegbua said the state government has taken bold steps to ease challenges with the purchase of the first batch of 50 CNG buses to improve mobility for citizens.

He reiterated the government’s zero-tolerance stance against cultism and other criminal activities, stressing that the administration remains determined to maintain peace and order.

Afegbua further stated that the Governor Okpebholo-led administration remains focused and clear in its vision of transforming Edo State through impactful governance and people-oriented policies.
