Kaduna State Governor, Senator Uba Sani, has formally handed over Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa Memorial Hospital in Kafanchan to the Federal Government for conversion into a federal medical centre.
The handover marks a new phase in efforts to strengthen healthcare delivery and bring specialist medical services closer to underserved communities.
Speaking at the ceremony in Abuja on Thursday, Governor Uba Sani said the decision was driven by the need to improve access to quality healthcare and ease the financial burden on families seeking specialised treatment.
Representing the Federal Ministry of Health and Social Welfare, the Minister of State for Health and Social Welfare, Dr Iziaq, said the initiative aligns with the Federal Government’s broader efforts to expand access to tertiary healthcare across the country.

He noted that 16 additional federal tertiary health institutions had been established across the six geopolitical zones under President Bola Tinubu’s administration.
Governor Uba Sani called on traditional rulers, community leaders, healthcare professionals and civil society organisations to support the transition, stressing the need for sustained investment, uninterrupted services and the protection of existing workers’ welfare.
The hospital, named after former Kaduna State Governor, Sir Patrick Ibrahim Yakowa, is expected to play a greater role in delivering specialised healthcare to residents of southern Kaduna and neighbouring communities.
