Zamfara State Governor, Dauda Lawal, has commended troops of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA for recording significant operational successes against bandits in the State.
Troops of the Joint Task Force (North West) Operation FANSAN YAMMA reportedly launched a coordinated offensive operation in the early hours of Thursday, May 7, 2026, in Kaura Namoda and Birnin Magaji Local Government Areas of the state.
Following the operation, the troops successfully neutralised three gang leaders and recovered a cache of arms and ammunition, including one AK-47 rifle, one machine gun, one locally fabricated handgun, seven rifle magazines, and a total of 571 rounds of ammunition.

In a statement issued by the Governor’s spokesperson, Sulaiman Idris, Governor Lawal described the renewed military offensive as timely, especially following the successful operation carried out on May 10, 2026, which disrupted a major gathering of notorious terrorist leaders and neutralised several commanders.
According to the statement, the troops acted on credible intelligence indicating that the terrorists had converged at a concealed location in Tumfa Village, Shinkafi Local Government Area, to coordinate attacks and other criminal activities against innocent communities in the state.

The statement further revealed that the Air Component of Operation FANSAN YAMMA carried out a precision airstrike on the identified terrorist hideout, successfully destroying the structure used as the terrorists’ meeting point.
Governor Lawal reiterated the Zamfara State Government’s commitment to providing continuous support and logistics to the military and other security agencies operating across the state.
