Governor Bassey Otu has directed contractors handling major infrastructure projects across Calabar metropolis to accelerate construction despite persistent rainfall.
He is of the view that climate-related disruptions will not derail his administration’s commitment to delivering critical road and drainage projects on schedule.
The governor gave the directive during an inspection of ongoing road, drainage, and public infrastructure projects in Calabar Metropolis.
The inspection tour took the governor to ongoing road projects, flood-prone areas, and major drainage channels across the Calabar metropolis.
It was an opportunity to assess the progress of construction and the impact of prolonged rainfall on infrastructure.

Describing climate change as a growing challenge to road construction, Governor Bassey Otu said the state is investing in improved drainage while researching more resilient road-building materials capable of withstanding changing weather conditions.
The inspection also focused on strategic public assets, including the ongoing remodelling of the Cultural Centre. There, the governor called for faster execution, saying the facility remains central to the state’s drive to strengthen tourism, culture, and the creative economy.
For residents, the expectation is that the renewed push for accelerated projects construction will translate into completed projects that ease transportation, reduce floodin, and strengthen public infrastructure across the state.
