Suspected gunmen have staged an unusual attack at the premises of the University of Nigeria Teaching Hospital, Enugu State, Southeast Nigeria, abducting the hospital’s Deputy Director Nursing services, and a security guard on duty.
The incident occurred around 7:30 on Tuesday morning within the University hospital premises located at Ituku Ozalla, on the Enugu – Port Harcourt expressway.
The abducted senior Nurse Officer, who also serves as the Theatre manager, was on her way to set up the Theatre for surgeries when she was accosted and abducted by armed kidnappers.
A video obtained by ait.live showed the suspected vehicle of the victim with one of its windows pierced by what appeared to be a bullet.
The Public Relations Officer of the medical institution, Boniface Uchelue, confirmed the incident in a telephone chat with AIT, stating that security agents have been notified and are pursuing the attackers.
“She was coming to work on time, around 7:30, because there was a case in the theatre and she’s the theatre manager. So, she was coming in the morning to set up the theatre for the surgery and she was accosted by armed kidnappers who overpowered her, and whisked her away.”
“The law enforcement are on the trail of the kidnappers. The Commissioner of Police is aware, the State Governor is aware. DSS, Forest guards, they’re all aware.”
However, no official statement has been released by the Police in Enugu regarding the incident at the time of this report.
