It has been a weekend of violence as gunmen launched attacks in different parts of Enugu State, South-East Nigeria including the brutal killing of police personnel.
Three police officers on stop-and-search duty at the University town, Agbani Roundabout in Nkanu West Local Government Area were on Saturday reportedly murdered by rampaging gunmen.
State Police Command spokesperson, DSP Daniel Ndukwe in a statement on Sunday confirmed that the three police officers were killed by armed hoodlums suspected to be IPOB-ESN members, numbering about 15 who operated in a Lexus Jeep and Toyota Tundra vehicles.
On Friday, a former Commissioner in Enugu State who had served as Chairman of Oji River LGA and his elder brother were killed while returning home after attending a burial in Achi.

Another attack at the Ibagwa Nike and Alulu Nike areas of Enugu East LGA left a petrol station manager shot on the thigh and hospitalised, while some persons were kidnapped on Saturday.
Unconfirmed reports claim a Catholic Priest in Enugu State whose identity is not disclosed for security reasons, was abducted at his Parish early Sunday by gunmen alleged to be speaking pidgin English and Fulani language.
The Police say investigations are ongoing.
