The National Hydroelectric Power Producing Areas Development Commission, HYPADEC, has reaffirmed its commitment to improving the living conditions of communities affected by hydroelectric power generation through closer collaboration with stakeholders and targeted development interventions.
The commitment was reiterated during a two-day engagement in Kaduna State.
The engagement began with a stakeholders’ interactive session aimed at strengthening collaboration and identifying priority areas for sustainable development in hydroelectric power-producing communities across Kaduna State.
Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Abubakar Yelwa, said that following the expansion of the commission’s mandate under the Electricity Act, Kaduna State has benefited from several interventions, including flood mitigation projects, environmental restoration, solar-powered boreholes, solar street lights, agricultural support and educational programmes.

As part of the second phase of the engagement, the management of the commission visited Lere Local Government Area on a familiarisation tour to interact with community leaders and assess their developmental needs.
The Managing Director said the visit was aimed at understanding the aspirations of the people and ensuring that future interventions are based on identified community priorities.
HYPPADEC says sustained engagement with host communities will strengthen partnerships, improve project coordination and ensure the effective delivery of sustainable development initiatives across hydroelectric power-producing areas.
