President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio

President of the Senate, Godswill Akpabio, has dismissed reports suggesting that he promised to secure senatorial tickets for lawmakers who lost in their party primaries, describing the claims as misleading.

In a statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Eseme Eyiboh, the Senate President clarified that he neither made nor authorised any such promise.

According to the statement, reports circulating in sections of the media misrepresented Senator Akpabio’s comments regarding senators affected by the outcome of their party primaries.

The statement explained that during interactions with his colleagues, the President of the Senate merely expressed sympathy for lawmakers who were negatively affected by the primary election results.

He reportedly assured the affected senators that the leadership of the All Progressives Congress, APC was actively working to address issues arising from the primaries and that the final list of candidates would be released in accordance with the party’s constitution and established electoral guidelines.

Akpabio further emphasised his commitment to party discipline, due process, and the internal dispute-resolution mechanisms of the APC.

He maintained that he would not interfere in the party’s autonomous processes or make commitments beyond the constitutional responsibilities of the leadership of the National Assembly.
