Nigeria’s Minister of Aviation and Aerospace Development, Festus Keyamo, says the Victor Attah International Airport in Uyo stands out as a transit hub owned by a sub-national government.

He made the remark during the airport’s maiden international flight ceremony.

On May 2, 2026, the airport recorded its first international service as an Ibom Air flight departed Uyo at 3:20pm local time for Kotoka International Airport in Ghana.

The milestone follows months of inspections, certification, and operational planning to meet international aviation standards.

Keyamo commended the growth of the aviation sector in Akwa Ibom State, describing the airport as a model for sub-national investment and innovation.
