Accountant-General of the Federation, Dr. Shamseldeen Ogunjimi, has assured the Nigeria Police Force, NPF of the Federal Government’s commitment to the prompt release of approved funds to strengthen security operations across the country.

Ogunjimi gave the assurance during a courtesy visit by the Inspector-General of Police, IGP Olatunji Disu, and his delegation to the Office of the Accountant-General of the Federation at the Treasury House in Abuja.

The Accountant-General noted that the Police play a critical role in tackling insecurity and maintaining law and order, stressing that adequate funding is necessary for the Force to effectively carry out its constitutional responsibilities.

He also stated that the forthcoming off-season elections scheduled for June and August this year would require substantial support from the Federal Government to ensure smooth and secure electoral processes.

The Accountant-General further urged the IGP to sustain engagement with the Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy to facilitate the release of outstanding funds owed to the Force.

Earlier, Disu appealed for the prompt release of outstanding funds, noting that adequate financing remains critical to the successful discharge of police duties and peaceful conduct of the upcoming elections.
