The Inspector General of Police, Usman Alkali Baba, has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Lagos State Command, Idowu Owohunwa to arrest Afrobeat singer, Seun Kuti, for assaulting a Police officer in uniform.

This was contained in a statement by the Force Public Relations Officer, Olumuyiwa Adejobi.

The IGP also ordered the Commissioner to ensure a speedy investigation to ascertain the cause of the assault and prosecute the suspect accordingly.

Meanwhile, Seun Kuti has pledged commitment to cooperate with the police in its investigation of assault against him.

Seun took to his Instagram @bigbirdkuti to share the information shortly after IGP Alkali Baba ordered the Commissioner of Police Lagos State Idowu Owohunwa to arrest him and investigate the incident.

The afrobeat singer on his Instagram Story wrote: “I welcome the investigation and will give my full cooperation! I also pray to the IG that whoever is wrong should be indicted.”

The singer Saturday May 13, 2023 was captured in a video which has since gone viral assaulting a police officer in uniform; an act the IGP described as contempt and disdain for symbols of authority; noting that such act will not be tolerated.
