The Management of the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital, UITH, has suspended Professor Salami Alakija Kazeem over his alleged unethical conduct that led to the death of a suspected Coronavirus infected patient at the hospital.
It was reliably gathered that the deceased, Muideen Obanimomo, returned to Nigeria on Friday, March 20, through the Murtala Mohammed International Airport, Lagos, and immediately went into self-isolation when he noticed strange symptomatic feelings.
Kazeem, who is a Professor of Medicine and Head of the Pulmonology Unit in internal medicine of UITH, was said to have facilitated the admission of Obanimomo and released his corpse to the family after he had died without following due process.
Professor Kazeem is said to be the family doctor of the deceased and his friend following which he allegedly influenced the process without proper health record with the body of the deceased also released for immediate burial according to Islamic rites without a Coronavirus test.

UITH in a statement issued by its Director of Administration, David Odaibo, confirmed the suspension of Professor Kazeem and noted that a 10-member investigation committee has been set up to look into the matter.
Meanwhile, the Kwara State Government has confirmed that the wife of the deceased has tested positive for Coronavirus.
