Presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress, NDC, Peter Obi has declared that his interest in Nigeria’s presidency is driven by a desire to see the country work, rather than simply occupying the nation’s highest political office.
Addressing principals of the NDC Support Group, One Nigeria, and other supporters in Abuja, Obi says Nigeria is going through a difficult period, marked by insecurity, poverty and worsening living conditions.

He calls for greater national unity and a government capable of changing the country’s direction, insisting that the challenges confronting Nigerians cut across ethnic and religious lines.
Obi notes that Nigeria is going through difficult times with its citizens among the most terrorised and poverty stricken in the world, while mothers and children live in unacceptable conditions in the Internally Displaced Persons, IDP camps
He however sees the problems as solvable.
The NDC presidential hopeful says Nigerians must unite to confront the country’s challenges, arguing that no tribe or religion has better roads, electricity, healthcare or schools when the wider system fails
He called on the National and State coordinators of the One Nigeria Movement to unite for a more productive Nigeria and stronger action against corruption, advocating a society where opportunities are not determined by connections.
