Onion farmers in Nigeria have claimed losses running into billions of naira to the recent violence and security breaches in Imo state.

The group recounted their ordeal during a visit to Governor Hope Uzodimma at Government House, Owerri, commending him for his patriotic leadership.

Coming under the umbrella of National Onion Producers, Processors and Marketers Association of Nigeria the group said that Governor Hope Uzodimma’s disposition to national unity is worthy of emulation.

The union recounted losses incurred when IMO state encountered grave security challenges, explaining efforts made by the farmers and marketers towards exporting the commodity for foreign exchange to boost Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

National President of the group, Alhaji Maitasimu Isah described Governor Uzodimma as a true Nigerian.

Uzodimma regretted that lives were lost needlessly during the security breaches and assured them of their safety.

The Governor however emphasized the need for Nigerians to rise to the occasion and fight perpetrators of evil in the country.
