The Imo State Police Command has confirmed a tragic incident which reportedly occurred Monday morning at the premises of a local church in Owaelu, Owerri North LGA.
Police say it recovered the lifeless body of a woman, allegedly killed by her husband, though the cause of the incident remains unclear.
The suspect is said to have fled the scene with two of their children, leaving behind a suckling baby beside the dead mother’s body.
The baby has however since been rescued and handed over to a trusted family relative, a Police statement narrated.
The Divisional Police Officer (DPO) Owerri North Divisional Headquarters said operatives have been intensified efforts to apprehend the fleeing suspect and rescue the two children.
The Command urges anyone with credible information to report to the Owerri North Divisional Police headquarters or the nearest security agency.
