The new Resident Electoral Commissioner, REC of the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, Aminu Idris has assumed office in Benue State, North-Central Nigeria.
He says the commission is dedicated to ensuring that every eligible citizen has the opportunity to participate in the 2027 electoral process and that all its operations meet the highest standards of integrity.
Idris who gave the commitment while speaking to journalists in Makurdi, the state capital said the media remains a critical partner in the democratic process, especially in ensuring that citizens are properly informed about the activities of the Commission and electoral developments in the state and country.
In his briefing, he begins with the continuous voter registration exercise which is in its third and final phase urging residents to take advantage of the exercise before the deadline.
Idris then goes on to speak on the restoration of some State Constituencies noting that the process had been completed for four out of the five affected local councils.
He assured the people of the State of the Commission’s commitment to conducting activities with transparency, professionalism and fairness.
