The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) says it has integrated security protocols into its election logistics and operations as part of measures to guarantee a peaceful, credible and inclusive Osun State governorship election.

The INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, gave the assurance at a stakeholders’ meeting in Osogbo on Wednesday, where he outlined new security, technological and accessibility measures the Commission will adopt ahead of the August 15 governorship poll.

Members of the various political parties contesting the governorship election, security agencies, traditional rulers, as well as civil society organisations in Osun State, interacted with the INEC Chairman, Prof. Joash Amupitan, to clear grey areas ahead of the August 15 governorship election.

According to the INEC Chairman, the Commission has shifted from a reactive to a proactive approach by strengthening its collaboration with security agencies and integrating security protocols into its logistics chain to safeguard election materials and personnel.

The INEC Chairman also disclosed that all stolen Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Boripe and Ife have been disabled, while the affected voters will use downloadable PVCs, where applicable, to participate in the governorship election.

The Commissioner of Police, Osun State Command, however, assured the stakeholders present that security agencies are fully prepared to protect voters, election officials and election materials.
The meeting ended with a renewed commitment by all stakeholders to work together to deliver a peaceful, free, fair and credible governorship election in Osun State.
