The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, has published the revised Register of Voters for the Federal Capital Territory ahead of the February 21, 2026 Area Council elections, placing the total number of eligible voters at one million, six hundred and eighty thousand, three hundred and fifteen.

The FCT Resident Electoral Commissioner, Aminu Idris, said the increase followed the Continuous Voter Registration exercise conducted between August and October 2025, in line with the Electoral Act.

He explained that the register underwent biometric de-duplication, public display for claims and objections, and compilation of a supplementary list, noting that the new register replaces all previous ones.

INEC also said it has completed party primaries monitoring, published final lists of candidates, commenced campaign monitoring, deployed the Bimodal Voter Accreditation System, and intensified voter education and security coordination.

The election will fill six Area Council chairmanship positions and sixty-two councillorship seats across the FCT.

INEC has also resumed Continuous Voter Registration in Anambra State following the conclusion of the November 2025 governorship election, ahead of the 2027 general polls.
