Governor Hope Uzodinma says he remains optimistic that the continuous voter registration, CVR exercise will resume in the three local government areas of Imo State where it was suspended last week following an attack that left at least two INEC staff dead. The affected local government areas are Ihitte Uboma, Njaba and Osu.
Governor Uzodinma at a sunday service in the Government House Chapel Owerri said he has been in talks with the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC on the matter. He explained that resuming the exercise will give eligible voters the opportunity to register and obtain their Permanent Voter Card, PVC before the next general elections.
Governor Uzodinma noted the importance of the exercise saying those who are deliberately scaring the people away from registering are enemies of the State who want to draw it back knowing fully well that CVR and the forthcoming population census are yardsticks for revenue allocation to states and local governments.
He therefore called on every citizen of Imo State who is 18 years and above, to ensure that they register and obtain the PVC.
He used the opportunity of the church service to condole the families of the deceased INEC staff and prayed for the repose of their souls, describing the situation leading to their deaths as unfortunate.
