In a landmark initiative aimed at enhancing infrastructure and fostering community development, Lafarge Africa Plc, a leading innovative and sustainable building solutions company, has completed the construction of a twenty kilometre road for its host community in Cross River state.
The road, a long-awaited necessity for the residents and the company itself, was officially commissioned by the state Governor, Bassey Otu.
The Evacuation Road in Mfamosing, Cross River State which commenced in 2010, is a 20 kilometre road, which cuts across four communities beginning from Mfamosing, Abiati, Etamkpini, and terminates at the Odukpani Junction in the state capital, Calabar.
The new road is a relief for the people who have been plying the outdated and unsafe equipment road for decades, and is seen as a catalyst for the economy of the area.
Speaking during the commissioning of the road, the Chairman of Lafarge Africa plc, Adebode Adefioye, said the initiative speaks to its corporate social responsibility commitments, with primary focus on improving the quality of life of the people it serves.
The Group Managing Director/ Chief Execution Officer of Lafarge Africa plc, Lolu Alade – Akinyemi, promised that more initiatives have been conceived by the company for the benefit of the host Communities.
The governor of the state, Bassey Otu commended Lafarge Africa Plc for the evacuation road which has helped in reducing traffic in the state, while assuring that the state government will continue to provide an enabling environment for their business to thrive.
Pleased by the project, Paramount Ruler of Odukpani local government area, His Royal Majesty, Etinyin Otu Asuquo Otu Mesembe VI, and other residents of the area, said such initiative will always endear the company to the community.
The Commissioning marks a significant milestone in the company’s sustainable development agenda.
