Polytechnics in Nigeria have been asked to engage in aggressive alternative funding, outside TETFund and budgetary allocations, to upscale the existing infrastructure and learning outcomes, to global technological standards.

The call was made by the chairman, governing council of the federal polytechnic N’yak, Shendam local government area of Plateau State, Abubakar Usman, when he visited the institution’s permanent site.

The rector of the polytechnic, Mukaila Ya’u and an electrical and electronics student, Yahaya Abubakar, appealed to the governing council to intervene swiftly in the issues of accommodation, water and electricity supply.

The Polytechnic, established by the last administration of President Muhammadu Buhari in 2021, about three years ago, began academic activities with 22 students across three programmes in June this year.

The three academic programmes approved by the National Board for Technical Education, NBTE are: Statistics, Business Administration, and Electrical Electronics Engineering.
