Governor Dikko Radda has inaugurated an ad-hoc committee to recruit no fewer than 2,400 local security cadet volunteers for the state.
He says it is in line with his administration’s resolve to improve security in the state.
In a statement by his Chief Press Secretary, Ibrahim Muhammed, the committee is to be chaired by a former General Officer Commanding the 7th Division, Nigerian Army, Major General Junaidu Bindawa (rtd).
It will help provide security in various parts of the state ravaged by the marauding activities of terrorists.
At the inauguration ceremony, Governor Radda charged the team members to recruit the best among Katsina youths for the voluntary job, to boost security in the eight frontline local governments of Batsari, Jibia, Safana, Danmusa, Kankara, Sabuwa, Faskari, and Dandume, bedevilled by terrorism.
According to the statement, “The committee has been tasked with the mandate of advising the government on how to systematize the payment of allowances and the purchase of equipment for the volunteered officers.
In addition, the committee would examine how many officers should be hired in each local government”.
Radda further added that “the committee is also responsible for reviewing the decision of whether it is appropriate to include vigilante men in the scheme or otherwise.

It also has a free hand to bring in any community member whom they consider suitable for making the programme successful,” the governor said.
