Insecurity : Zamfara NMA Urges FG To Intensify Fight Against Banditry

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) Zamfara State branch has again called on the Federal Government to, as a matter of Priority address the prevailing security challenges facing the State, saying it has already impacted the fragile health sector in the State.

The Vice chairman of the Association, Dr Mohammed Murtala, made the call while briefing Journalists in Gusau, the State capital ahead of their Physician Week, calling on the Zamfara State Government to increase funding for the health sector and improve the working conditions of health workers in the State.

The Zamfara State branch of the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) is not only concerned with the outbreak of cholera and Diphtheria but it is poised to work with the State Government to tackle the diseases towards improving the health indices.

It is against this backdrop that it has chosen to beam its searchlight on cholera and Diphtheria outbreak at its 2024 Scientific conference as part of activities lined up to Mark the Physician Week to intensify awareness, identify the causative factors and proffer solutions to the diseases.

The NMA commended Governor Dauda Lawal for improving health infrastructures, equipping the general hospitals across the State, as well as the remodeling of Ahmad Yariman Bakura Specialist Hospital which is the only tertiary hospital in Zamfara and they believe that the action will boost health services to residents.

They called on the Zamfara State Government to strengthen the response to especially the outbreak of Diphtheria and cholera and collaborate with the various health unions in the State.
