The remains of late Eze Israel Kanu and his wife, Sally, have been laid to rest in their home town, Afara Ukwu Ibeku, Umuahia, Abia State, South-East Nigeria.
Eze Kanu is the father of the leader of the proscribed Indigenous People of Biafra, IPOB, Nnamdi Kanu.
Delivering a homily during the funeral service, the Anglican Bishop of Umuahia Diocese, Geoffrey Ibeabuchi, charged Christians to live a life worthy of emulation, knowing that death is inevitable.
Contrary to speculation that the burial would be disrupted by the IPOB members, the burial ceremony was peaceful, with a mammoth crowd of sympathizers and youths suspected to be members of the IPOB.
Former Governor of Anambra State, Peter Obi, and Senator representing Abia South Senatorial District, Enyinnaya Abaribe, while describing the late couple as friendly and loving, observed that the burial was peaceful.
