Nigeria’s Downstream Petroleum Sector Recorded Improved Performance In June, As Local Refineries Operated Above Their Installed Capacity, Driving Higher Petrol Consumption And Strengthening Domestic Fuel Supply.

This is according to the latest midstream and downstream petroleum fact sheet for June 2026 released by the Nigerian Midstream And Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority, NMDPRA.

The report showed that daily petrol consumption rose to 47.4 million litres in June, up from 46.3 million litres recorded in May, indicating a modest recovery in fuel demand.

Petrol supply also increased to an average of 47.4 million litres per day in June, compared with 44.4 million litres in May. Of this volume, 46.2 million litres came from domestic refineries, while only 1.2 million litres were imported.

Despite the month-on-month improvement, the report showed that Nigerians consumed a total of 9.316 billion litres of petrol between January and June 2026, compared with 9.368 billion litres during the corresponding period of 2025, representing a decline of about 52 million litres.
