Benue State Government has called for calm following the widespread power outage across the state, reassuring residents that high-level engagements are currently ongoing with the Jos Electricity Distribution, JED PLC to restore power immediately.

In a statement released on Saturday by the Commissioner for Information and Orientation, Solomon Iorpev, the State Government refuted allegations leveled against it regarding disconnection, while giving firm assurances on staff safety for electricity workers.

A statewide electricity disruption has left households, hospitals, artisans, and small business owners in Benue State, North-Central Nigeria facing severe economic and daily operational challenges.

In response to the growing hardship, the Benue State Government in the official statement assured the public that top-level interventions are underway to restore normal power supply.

Addressing the dispute between the State and JED, the Commissioner clarified the government’s position. He noted that allegations against the administration regarding the events leading to the disconnection are unfounded.

He emphasised that the state firmly condemns any form of violence against individuals or public installations, confirming that security agencies have been tasked with carrying out an impartial investigation.

According to the government statement, Governor Hyacinth Alia has ordered a swift resolution to the crisis to cushion the impact on families, health facilities, and small businesses.

The administration strongly condemned any acts of intimidation or vandalism against utility property, revealing that security agencies have been mandated to conduct a thorough and impartial probe into the incident.

The government is urging JED and the electricity workers’ union to consider the plight of innocent citizens and restore supply while dialogue continues.

Citizens are encouraged to safeguard power installations within their communities and remain peaceful while negotiations are finalised.
