The family has announced the death of the former Chief of General Staff, Lieutenant-General Oladipo Diya (Rtd). He reportedly died in the early hours of Sunday at 79.
His office as Chief of General Staff was equivalent to that of the country’s Vice President under the administration of the late General Sani Abacha from 1993 to 1997.

The late Lieutenant-General Diya who earlier served as Chief of Defence Staff and Military Governor of Ogun State was removed from office following his arrest, trial, and conviction by the Military Tribunal for allegedly planning a coup in 1997.

On behalf of the entire Diya family home and abroad; We announce the passing on to the Glory of our dear Husband, Father, Grandfather, brother, Lt- General Donaldson Oladipo Oyeyinka Diya (Rtd) GCON, LLB, BL, PSC, FSS, mni. Our dear Daddy passed onto glory in the early hours of 26th March 2023. Please keep us in your prayers as we mourn his demise in this period. Further announcements will be made public in due course.
