Popular social media platform, Twitter has announced that Billionaire entrepreneur, Elon Musk has been appointed into its board by mutual consent.

CEO of Twitter, Parag Agrawal who took to his verified Twitter handle early Tuesday afternoon said, the plan to appoint Musk into the board of Twitter followed several weeks of serious conversations with Elon.

“I’m excited to share that we’re appointing @elonmusk to our board! Through conversations with Elon in recent weeks, it became clear to us that he would bring great value to our Board.

“He’s both a passionate believer and intense critic of the service which is exactly what we need on @Twitter, and in the boardroom, to make us stronger in the long-term. Welcome Elon!

His appointment will not be unconnected with his recent purchase of 9.2% stake of Twitter earlier this week, making him the largest shareholder of Twitter.

Elon Musk had last week questioned the company’s commitment to free speech after previously criticizing the platform for what he described as “de facto arbiter of free speech” in the wake of the platform’s decision to ban former US president, Donald Trump and consequently suggesting he might start his own social platform.

With his recent appointment, analysts believe he may try to push the platform towards libertarian direction that could change the way Twitter polices its platform as well as who it banishes.
