The first case of the Delta variant of Covid-19 has been confirmed In Nigeria.
Head of Communications of the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control, NCDC, Yahya Disu in a statement says the variant was detected in a traveller to Nigeria following the routine travel test required of all international arrivals and genomic sequencing at the NCDC Reference Laboratory in Abuja, the nation’s capital.
The statement noted that given the highly transmissible nature of the Delta variant, the NCDC is urging all Nigerians to ensure strict adherence to public health and social measures in place.

The Delta variant is recognised by the World Health Organisation, WHO as a variant of concern.
The variant has also been linked to a surge in cases in countries where it is the dominant strain in circulation.
