KWARA STATE

Police have confirmed a shooting incident that occurred at Isapa, via Obbo-Ile Village in Ekiti Local Government Area of Kwara State, leading to fresh abduction of 10 people.

The State Police Command said it received a distress call reporting sporadic gunfire within the community. In swift response, police operatives immediately mobilised patrol units and tactical teams to the scene.

In a statement released by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, preliminary investigations revealed that at about 1805hrs, a group of armed men suspected to be herders invaded the village, shooting sporadically. One woman sustained gunshot wound to the leg but has since been treated and discharged.

Further findings confirmed that 10 persons were abducted during the attack.

In reaction to the development, the State Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, has visited Isapa community for an on-the-spot assessment of the situation. During the visit, he met with traditional rulers, the Onisapa of Isapa Land, Oba Gbenga Adeyeye, and the Olokesa of Okesa Land, Oba Olu Fagbamila Raphael Olusegun alongside local and youth leaders, assuring residents of intensified efforts to ensure the safe rescue of the victims and restore public confidence.

Meanwhile, a coordinated search-and-rescue operation is currently underway, involving police tactical units and local vigilante groups combing surrounding bushes with the aim of rescuing the abducted persons and apprehending the culprits.

The statement further maintained that normalcy has been restored in the community, and security operatives remain on heightened alert as monitoring continues.
