Unspecified number of Muslim worshippers have been reportedly abducted by terrorists who stormed the Juma’at mosque at Zugu community in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of Zamfara State, North-West, Nigeria.

Eyewitness accounts say the Muslim worshippers were waiting to observe their Juma’at prayers when the terrorists invaded the community to carry out the dastardly act.

Sources also confirm that the Chief Imam of one of the mosques was among those abducted by the terrorists.

The attackers are said to have stormed the community barefooted and hid their weapons in their long dresses after they had completed surveying the area, they started firing sporadic gunshots to scare residents away and thereafter abducted the victims.

The Zamfara State Police Command has confirmed the incident with the Public Relations Officer, Superintendent Mohammed Shehu saying additional tactical operatives have been deployed to complement the ongoing effort to rescue the victims unhurt.

The Police also say operatives repelled terrorists attack after receiving distress call about an attempt to attack the neighboring community to Zugu in Bukkuyum Local Government Area of the State.

The Command reassured members of the public of its commitment to rid the State of criminal activities.

It appealed for continuous support and collaboration with all the security operatives in an effort to restore peace and security in Zamfara State.
