The Kaduna State Government has commenced the payment of approximately two billion naira in compensation to 865 households affected by township road reconstruction projects in Zaria, Sabon Gari, Giwa and Shika.
Governor Uba Sani says the payments demonstrate his administration’s commitment to infrastructure development while protecting the rights and livelihoods of affected residents.
The compensation covers properties and public utilities within the right of way of road reconstruction projects, including 11 township roads in Zaria and Sabon Gari, as well as roads in Giwa and Shika.
Construction was temporarily suspended to allow a transparent and equitable assessment of affected properties, ensuring no citizen loses property without fair and adequate compensation.
While presenting cheques to beneficiaries, Governor Sani disclosed that since assuming office in May 2023, his administration has paid approximately seven billion naira in compensation to 4,865 households across Kaduna State’s three senatorial zones.
He said the payments will help affected families relocate, secure accommodation, and rebuild their livelihoods while ensuring infrastructure development does not impose avoidable hardship on residents.
The governor directed utility agencies to expedite the safe relocation of water, electricity, and telecommunications infrastructure to allow construction to resume.
He urged contractors to maintain quality standards and protect public safety while calling on beneficiaries to use the compensation judiciously.
