Kaduna State is stepping up investments in its healthcare sector as the government says its partnership with the Gates Foundation is delivering results in expanding access to quality health services, especially for vulnerable and underserved communities.

Governor Uba Sani says the partnership, which stemmed from an agreement signed in New York last year, has helped fast-track healthcare reforms across the state.

Speaking during a meeting with a delegation from the Gates Foundation, the governor disclosed that the state has recruited 1,500 healthcare workers under a five-year plan to employ 1,800 personnel, describing the move as a major step towards addressing the shortage of health professionals.

The Country Director of the Gates Foundation, Uche Amaonwu, praised Kaduna State for its commitment to delivering on its healthcare reform agenda.

He highlighted the creation of the state’s Delivery and Insights Unit, saying the unit will serve as a key implementation and monitoring platform to drive healthcare reforms under the Kaduna State Mutual Accountability Platform (KMAP) and ensure that public investments produce measurable results.

Governor Uba Sani also revealed that 15 secondary healthcare facilities have been renovated, remodelled and fully equipped, while the state’s 300-bed specialist hospital is now operational.

He expressed confidence that the hospital will emerge as a major centre for medical tourism in Nigeria over the next two years, reaffirming his administration’s commitment to providing affordable, accessible and quality healthcare for all residents.
