The Kaduna State Government says it has recorded 68 suspected cases of diphtheria
According to a statement by the Director of Public Health, Kaduna State Primary Health Care Development Agency, Hamza Ibrahim-Ikara, eight people have died, as a result of the disease.
Ikara said the suspected cases were from four Local Government Areas of the state, which include Makarfi, Kubau, Jema’a (Kafanchan), and Kaduna North.
He added that the eight cases of death were, five from Jema’a, and three from Makarfi.
According to him, 28 samples have been taken to the laboratory, and they are still waiting for the results.
Ikara added that contact tracing is ongoing so that more people will not be infected.

According to him, the rapid response team is carrying out an awareness and sensitization campaign in communities and has therefore advised residents, to report suspected cases, to the nearest health facilities across the state.
