Lawmakers mostly from the opposition Peoples Democratic Party, PDP, spoke against the motion insisting that the matter could not be discussed today (Monday) and therefore, the resolution of the Assembly on the matter should be considered on Wednesday.
The argument that ensued led to a fight where some members engaged in a fight over mace. The Sergeant-at-Arms had to retrieve the mace from some of the lawmakers.
Later, Speaker of the Assembly, Abdul Aziz, recalled the mace and put the question to vote whether the Assembly can consider the matter but some members continued shouting in opposition.
The Speaker was forced to call for a 30 minutes break to calm frayed nerves.
