The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC says it has not authorised the letter purportedly written by the Legal Officer of its Kano State office indicating that the Commission had withdrawn from the appeal process in the ongoing Kano State Governorship election petition case.
In a statement by the National Commissioner and Chairman, Information and Voter Education, Sam Olumekun, the Commission said the letter was not authorised and has since been withdrawn.

Olumekun said the Legal Officer who wrote the letter has also been reprimanded and called on the general public to discountenance the insinuation that the Commission has withdrawn from the case or even worse abandoned the appeal.
The statement explained that where litigants join INEC in a case, it is under obligation to respond accordingly and has therefore instructed its lawyers to proceed in line with extant policy of the Commission, adding that the policy has not changed.
