The Governor of Kano State, Abba Yusuf, has described teachers as critical agents of nation-building, stressing the need to provide them with the necessary support and enabling environment to effectively educate and shape future generations.
Governor Yusuf made the remarks during the 2026 World Teachers’ Day celebration in Kano, where he reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to policies and programmes aimed at improving teachers’ welfare and strengthening the teaching profession.
As the global community marks World Teachers’ Day on October 5, attention is once again drawn to the central role educators play in building a knowledgeable, skilled, and responsible society.
In Kano State, Governor Abba Yusuf, represented by the Secretary to the State Government at the celebration held at the Government House, acknowledged teachers as the architects behind virtually every other profession that exists.
The Governor says his administration’s recognition of the critical role of teachers informed the deliberate steps taken to improve their professional and welfare conditions since assuming office.
Abba Yusuf highlighted the employment of over sixteen thousand teachers across primary and secondary schools, training, capacity building, promotion, as well as efforts to provide a conducive working environment for them.
The leadership of the teachers’ union in Kano State says the governor’s disposition towards the profession and practitioners is worth commending.
The World Teachers’ Day celebration brought together teachers from all 44 local government areas of Kano State, many of whom appeared in uniform attire, symbolising solidarity, professional pride and their shared commitment to educating the next generation.
The day ended on a joyful note with the announcement of the promotion of teachers in the junior secondary school sector of the state and the release of about two hundred and forty million naira as promotion arrears.
