Following the release of its institutional evaluation findings, the Kano State Centre for Disease Control, CDC in North-West Nigeria is moving into its next phase of development.
The Centre is now working to implement its Operational Guidelines, finalise its Annual Operational Plan, and develop Infection Prevention and Control, or IPC, work plans for health facilities across the state.
The Centre was established to strengthen epidemic preparedness in Kano and give the state greater capacity to coordinate and respond to public health threats. Its responsibilities include prevention of epidemic prone diseases, detection, and rapid response.

The Director General, Professor Adamu Abbas says the objective of the meeting is to look at what was on the ground before the coming of State CDC and what obtains after the establishment of the centre.
In the meantime, the Centre is having challenges, which include the establishment of a public health lab and the establishment of the emergency preparedness and response fund.
It could be recalled that, the Kano State Governor, Abba Yusuf officially commissioned the Centre’s Complex on August 3 this year
