Kano State is deploying artificial intelligence to track suspected drug dealers and strengthen surveillance against drug trafficking.
The Chairman of the state’s Multi-Agency Taskforce on Drug Abuse and Illicit Trafficking, Muhyi Magaji, says a rapid-response centre is also being equipped to receive reports around the clock.
He says intensified enforcement has contributed to a 35 per cent reduction in drug-related crimes over the past three months.
A rapid-response centre being equipped in Kano will bring together monitoring facilities, an information and communications technology unit and a 24-hour call centre.
The facilities are intended to help the taskforce receive information from the public and respond quickly to suspected drug-related activities.
Taskforce Chairman Muhyi Magaji says artificial intelligence is also being deployed to support surveillance and track suspected drug dealers.
Magaji says drug-related crimes have fallen by 35 per cent in the past three months.
He attributes the reported decline to intensified enforcement, citing drug seizures, arrests and more than five hundred convictions.
