The Katsina State Command of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, says it has seized 1.3 million kilograms, the equivalent of 1.3 tonnes of drugs, and arrested over 500 suspects, between January and June this year.
The Commander of the Agency in the state, Muhammed Ibrahim, said this at the end of a weeklong event to mark the International Day Against Drug Abuse.
He also said the command has taken its War Against Drug Abuse , to the grassroots.


Ibrahim, while giving his command’s scorecard, said the seized substances include, cannabis sativa or indian hemp, psychotropic substances, codeine and cough syrup.
He said 15 drug dealers were convicted and are serving jail terms while 388 substance abusers were counselled and rehabilitated during the period under review.

Katsina State Governor Aminu Masari, represented by the Commissioner for Health, Yakubu Danja, said the state has keyed into the National Drug Control Master Plan with the establishment of the State Drug Committe to provide appropriate intervention and strategies to prevent drug abuse.
