The Federal Government has been urged to replicate the agroforestry model used in Katsina State for resilient building and livelihood generation to mitigate the effect of climate change as Nigeria plans to plant 25 million trees to tackle deforestation.
European Union representative and Country Director of Oxfam, Constant Tchona, who made the call during the end of project review meeting for the European Union funded improving the Fuel Wood Balance, FUWOBA, in seven local government areas of Katsina State, said that the project was successful by surpassing its set targets.

Tchona called for its sustainability as well as for the Federal Government to adopt the strategy.
Satisfied with the achievements recorded in the last five years, the State Governor, Aminu Masari, through the Director Drought Control in the state Ministry of Environment, Mustapha Lawal, assured the EU of sustainability of the projects.
On their part, the State House of Assembly pledged to continue enacting environment-friendly laws to ensure the sustainability of the projects.
At the end of the project in the state, about 8 million trees have been planted and maintained against the 5.5 million target set by the EU.
