Troops of Operation FANSAN YAMMA have repelled an attack by Lakurawa terrorists on a military base in Maiyama, Kebbi State, recovering weapons, ammunition and seventeen motorcycles.
The military says the attackers arrived on more than one hundred motorcycles in the early hours of October 7, armed with machine guns and rocket-propelled grenades.
In a statement, the Media Information Officer of the Joint Task Force Northwest, Lieutenant Colonel Aliyu Danja, says troops resisted the assault, forcing the terrorists to withdraw.
Subsequent pursuit and clearance operations led to the recovery of a PKT machine gun, an AK-47 rifle, assorted ammunition, a communication device and seventeen motorcycles.
The military says the recovered equipment will weaken the group’s ability to carry out further attacks.
The Theatre Command says troops will continue operations to prevent terrorist groups from operating freely within the joint operations area.
