Ahead of Saturday’s Bye-election and the re-run poll for the Arewa/ Dandi and Shanga/Yuari/Ngaski Federal constituencies in Kebbi State, the Commissioner of Police, Chris Aimionowane in conjunction with Heads of other security agencies in the State on Thursday, had an engagement with political Party leaders and candidates from the two affected constituencies.
The event culminated in the signing of a Peace Accord with a view to ensuring the peaceful and safe environments foment in the conduct of the polls where prospective voters would be free exercise their franchise in the affected areas of the State.
The CP further called on the political actors to eschew all forms of violence and provocative utterances to opponents during and after the elections.
CP Chris Aimionowane advised Party leaders and the candidates to warn their supporters to desist from carrying any lethal weapon of any kind during the elections.
The CP added that, a joint operations room comprising of personnel of all the security agencies has been established in the Police Command Headquarters with the task of receiving complaints on the conduct of the election from across the two affected constituencies for prompt responses.
Similarly, the Resident Electoral Commissioner of the Independent National Electoral Commission in charge of Kebbi State, Abubakar Sarkin Fawa has reiterated the need for the political party leaders and candidates to act in peace with one another.
Fawa equally reminded them to extend their hands of friendship with a view to maintaining the peaceful nature of the State as it has been known for.
The Resident Electoral Commissioner also advised them to be extremely careful by verifying the veracity of any publication seen in the social media concerning the conduct of the forthcoming Bye/Re-Run elections in the two affected constituencies in the state.
