Kebbi State Government says to it remains committed to proper town planning in the state capital and major towns.
The Secretary to the State Government, SSG Babale Umar said this when he received the National President of the Nigeria Institute of Town Planners (NITP) Olutoyin Ayinde in his office.
The government scribe attributed disasters such as flooding as being among the problems affecting urban plans.
He said the state government will do all possible to facilitate the domestication of town planning laws as done in other states.
The SSG stressed the need to have adequate plans for towns and cities, to tackle the conflict between people over the scarcity of land resources.
The National President of Nigeria Institute of Town Planners, Olutoyin Ayinde, said the function of town planners encompasses granting building approvals, and producing plans for the urban system.
Ayinde said the difference between Western and African countries is putting urban plans into a settlement system, adding that, if Nigeria uses proper plans for its cities, there will be greater development in the cities, and the incidence of flooding reduced adding that Kebbi State is among the few that yet to domesticate the Town And Regional Planning Law, which was designed in 1992 and passed into Federal Law in 2004.
