The Nigerian Government has called on unemployed graduates to key into the Blue/green-collar jobs, as there are no more employment opportunities in public offices or what is popularly known as white-collar jobs.
The Minister of Labour and Employment, Chris Ngige, made the call at a town hall meeting on Popularization of Blue/Green Collar Jobs among Graduates of Tertiary Institutions in Nigeria, held in Benin, Edo State.
In a statement released by the Deputy Director Press, Charles Akpan, the Minister, represented by the Director, Special Duties and Projects, Martina Nwordu, urged the Nigerian youths to invest their talent in the Blue/Green Collar Jobs sector, as “the richest youth of the world, aged between 21 and 31 years, are not employees of the government.”
In another development, Ngige presided over a meeting between workers in the electricity sector and officials of the Federal Ministry of Power in a bid to avert a return to industrial action by the employees.
The workers, under the auspices of the Nigerian Union of Electricity Employees, NUEE, were led by the General Secretary, Joe Ajaero.
