Kogi Govt to empower 20,000 rural women through commercial production of mushrooms

Kogi State Government has revealed plans to raise over twenty thousand rural women from poverty across the state through the commercial production of mushrooms.

Deputy Governor of the state Edward Onoja said this would be done through an empowerment made possible through a partnership arrangement with an agro-driven company, Mbeng Adio Mushroom Farm based in the United States of America.

Not too many people know the economic importance of mushrooms and its nutritional value, industrial and pharmaceutical benefits as raw materials for the production of a number of products.

Deputy Governor of Kogi State, Edward Onoja who played host to this Nigerian-US-based investor said, the government is leveraging on the over fifty-six-billion-dollar investment, available in mushroom farming to empower Kogi women.

Leader of the investor, Bridget Mbeng, speaks on the economic importance of mushrooms and why Nigeria has to key into the farming of the product.

Edward Onoja assured the investors that the state Government would create facilities necessary for the successful implementation of the investment, as the beneficiaries, would also be provided with financial supports through grants from development financing institutions.
