Commissioner of Police in Kogi State, North-Central Nigeria, Naziru Kankarofi, has intensified security engagements across the state, meeting with principals and education stakeholders in a proactive move aimed at preventing possible attacks and abductions targeting schools.

The emergency consultation, held in Lokoja, brought together key actors in the education sector to review vulnerabilities in schools and strengthen preventive measures against criminal threats targeting pupils and students.

Stakeholders at the meeting raised concerns over several security gaps currently affecting schools across the state.

Among the issues highlighted were the absence of perimeter fencing in many public schools, weak security awareness systems, increasing cases of land encroachment, illegal mining activities around school environments, and the growing influence of substance abuse, all of which were described as risk factors exposing learners to danger.

Some participants urged the state government to urgently increase investment in school security infrastructure and strengthen collaboration with relevant security agencies to safeguard educational facilities.

After listening to the concerns and recommendations, the Commissioner of Police assured participants that the command is already working on a strengthened security framework for schools across Kogi State.

The police command says further measures will be rolled out in the coming days as part of broader efforts to improve safety across the state’s education sector.
