Suspected bandits who abducted 280 school children in Kuriga village of Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, Northwest Nigeria are demanding a ransom of N1billion from the victims’ families before they can release their captives.

ait.live gathered from a village source that the bandits made a phone call to demand that the ransom be paid within the next 20 days.

A community youth leader from the area, Aminu Kuriga, who confirmed this, said that the villagers are disturbed since the demand was made.

According to him, the bandits informed him that the children are presently in an undisclosed location in Zamfara State, emphasizing that the ransom must be paid before the specified date.

Neither the Kaduna State government nor the Police authorities have made any official statement regarding the reported N1billion ransom demand.

It would be recalled that bandits attacked Kuriga Primary and Secondary schools in Chikun Local Government Area of Kaduna State, where they abducted over 280 children.

The State Governor, Uba Sani, and security agencies have assured that the children would be rescued unharmed.
