Vice-Presidential Candidate of the National Democratic Congress, NDC, Rabiu Kwankwaso, has accused the Kano State Government of allegedly working to frustrate the party’s Governorship candidate ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Kwankwaso who addressed journalists at his Bompai residence in Kano, expressed concern over what he described as attempts to undermine the political ambitions of members of the Kwankwasiyya Movement.
He alleged that the state Government was uncomfortable with the prospect of facing a Governorship candidate from the Kwankwasiyya camp, citing the reported exclusion of the NDC candidate’s name from the list of recognised candidates by the Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC.
But the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Mustapha Mohammed has dismissed the allegations as baseless and unwarranted.
The CPS maintained that Governor Abba Yusuf and the Kano State Government had no involvement or prior knowledge of the circumstances surrounding the omission of the NDC candidate’s name.
He added that the Governor remained focused on the political process and was prepared to participate in the forthcoming election, insisting that the allegations would not distract the administration.
