One of Nigerian Airline, Overland’s aircraft carrying 37 passengers including crew members from Ilorin to Lagos caught fire midair on Wednesday evening after experiencing unusual high temperature on one of its engines.

The incident occurred in the approach phase of flight at the Murtala Muhammed international airport in lagos as all the passengers who were unhurt were disembarked row by row after the plane came to a halt on the runway 18 right.

The pilots had sent out a Mayday to the Lagos control tower as an emergency procedure for a distress signal in voice-procedure radio communications as The Pilot-in-Command of the distressed plane was reportedly on approach to Lagos when the incident happened.

The Lagos airport control tower consequently put the airport emergency response team, including the Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria’s fire services department, Nigeria civil aviation authority, NCAA, Accident investigative bureau, AIB-N and NAtional airspace management agency, NAMA on notice.

He finally landed the faulty plane safely on the international airport’s runway amid a fully prepared airport emergency response team

As at the time of filing the report, Efforts made by ait.live to reach the spokesperson of the airline operator for more information proved abortive.
